Well, I'm not as well-versed in video cards as most of the other guys here! It depends what you'd be doing the most with your system.

For the price range you're looking at, I'd say some sort of Radeon 9100 would probably be the best bet, or a "refurb" nVidia-based Ti4200 if you can swing it (under $100).

5900 Ultra, 450$

...hey whadda know, when u want to pay 450$ for the major parts of a system, you dont get to buy a 450$ vid card :P

seems like the 5200 is good enough for your budget.

*a note of sarcasm there but my point is still valid.

I recommened a radeon 9600 pro if you are serious about gaming

Yeah...the eye hand cooridnation isn't what it used to be, so major gaming is out.  I still like to play a game now and then and I want to try my hand at some video editing.

Thanks for all the advice so far, and if there is anymore please keep it coming.

If you build a new system.. you're probably gonna need a new case and power supply too.  Do you have that already?  If not.. that's gonna set you back another $40-120 for a decent case.

As for internal parts...

AMD Athlon XP 2500+ (Barton) Retail
Asus A7N8X Deluxe Retail
ATi Radeon 9000 (or 9000pro or 9500)
Kingston RAM 256MB x2 -utilize the dual channel capabilitiy (when it goes down to like $20 after rebate from CompUSA, Best Buy, etc.)

I'm not going to use a case...part of what I'm doing is putting this system in a drawer of my desk.  As for the PSU...I may use two small ones...one in the drawer with the mobo and HD, and the other on top of the desk where I will put the CD and DVD.  Although Blooz1 had mentioned incompatabiliy issues, so I need to look into that further.

I like the 256 x2 idea!

What are the advantages of NF2? on the epox 8rga+ mobo?
