Affect of AMD's decision to go to embedded chips...?
« on: August 16, 2001, 03:51:00 PM »

AMD announced yesterday that it would cease production of several AMD line chips, mostly older 486, 586, and K6 chips and start production on an embedded Duron line.

My question is this:  Is this the same embedded technology that you could not upgrade, since all components would be embedded to work together?  And if it is, how will this affect upgraders?  Would upgraders have to buy a whole "embedded" system to upgrade just one component?

This announcement said AMD would cease production in 2003.
