is it worth the extra HUNDRED bucks?

depends:
1)what are the other parts in your PC?
2)Are you MAN enough to handle the big beefy 256 meg version? :)

One of the nifty things I read is that the DDRII used for the 256 meg version of the 9800 pro is that while ATI only clocks the ram at 2x350, the ram is spec'd to run at 2x450... that means that massive OCs may be just around the corner... is it worth the $500... well... thats an opinion.  Some people think that you could get better bang for the buck with something like this:

i'd recommend a voodoo2, those things are the best out on the market for the price. I havent seen another graphics card out do it yet, and you can probably find them online for about $15. Good luck , and happy shopping.

ahh yes the voodoo2 was such a fun card...the voodoo5 is even more fun :D

personaly id go with less ram because its cheaper and still provides good performance... but Im a real cheapskate... hence i still run a voodoo5

I would hit the 128 because the improvement in real life gaming will not be worth the extra money.
and as for the VOO DOO DOO my cell has better graphics

At this point I must defend my video card... it  obvoiusly processes graphics better than a cable modem or cell phone and I olny have found a small few games that it dosnt play... though the list is growing as new ones come out  and the drivers become even less compatible.. the voodo 5 does perfeectly well on programs like 3dsmax and photoshop... it displays movies and other video well  because i dont game quite as much anymore its a great card and i havent needed to upgrade yet

Also depends what type of games you run. If you're happy w/3 year old games, get the 128M (or a 64M somewhere), but if you're looking at keeping this for the long haul and playing HL2/Doom3 with it, get the 256M.

The benchmarks I've seen show absolutely no difference in performance between the two, for now, anyways.

Just think of whats on the horizon: yer gonna buy another card in the next two years, trust me.  Save your money with the 128MB, you'll be good until you buy your next card.
