My new monitor won't save settings. Help.
« on: June 04, 2003, 06:27:00 PM »

I just got a new monitor and the image settings like verticle and horizontal size and position will not stay the same when i turn off the monitor.  Is this a problem with my monitor or my video card?  What can i do to fix it?

What kind of monitor is it first of all, and when you say "turn it off" do you mean you press the button on the monitor, or do you flick the switch on the power strip, i know a lot of people that do that.

It may be that your refresh rate keeps changing, most monitors need to be set up for each refresh rate at every resolution.

It's a Sony E240 Flat CRT trinitron.  The refresh rate is not changing, and i push the monitors power button, not the power strip button.

Chances are the monitor is defective then.  Most monitors have a sort of cmos that stores the settings, and it requires a battery, just like a motherboard, except most of the time the battery isnt replaceable.  Take the monitor back to wherever you got it and they should give you a new one.

The battery must be faulty you should return it.  This happened on an old moniter I had it was like 5 years old the battery had probably died too.
