Temps for a K7 1.2ghz
« on: February 12, 2002, 02:50:00 PM »

Does anyone know the normal running temps that a Athlon 1.2ghz processor would be? I have a friends that his temps are at 55 C at boot, and about 75 C after playing Operation Flash point for a couple of hours. Need help to cool this beast, but Im not allowed to touch the thing untill I can prove to his mother that this thing is too hot.

Most people (from what i've read) don't want their cpu to get over 50'c it starts pushing the limit after that. Look at some of the HS reviews on this site, the good ones can hold a overclocked cpu under 35'c .. 75'c is over double that.

I'm also on a 1.2 gHz athlon.  I haven't made any temp measurements yet but i want to see what mine makes.  It's so cold here today in the DC metro area.  maybe mine would go around 30 degrees ;)

thats a tad warm. My 1.333ghz rat at 51c idle with the stock hsf, ~58C loaded. imho, anything over 50c is pushing it.

Also, I don't remember where or exact numbers but for every Xc (can't remember if it was 1 or 5 or what) you double the life of your cpu. For what thats worth.

Thats pretty hot. Try to get it under 50 for sure.

Pull the heatsink, and clean, grease it with some arctic silver, and re-seat it. Maybe it's not seated correctly.

I have a 1.4 T-bird, and it nevers goes over 50 at full load, even though its overclocked to 1.553. With minor cooling add-ons.

Thanks alot. That really help me out. Yeah, this is the third HSF that has been put on to the chip itself. Thats how many issues it has been having. I would think that the F*&%^g tech guys at any good computer store would know how to add a case fan, but this system doesn't even have one of thoes! The problem with the system is, is that Im not alowed to fix it. Its still got a year and a half on the warranty and my friends mother has got a stick up her ass about this thing. she won't even let me up grade to Win98 SE from the origional version because she thinks it will void the warranty on it.
