No more HDD Activity Light?
« on: April 24, 2003, 01:35:41 AM »

I ordered some 3mm Blue LEDs to use as the power/HDD activity lights on my box. I tried hooking one up, but it didn't turn on. After checking with my multimeter I found out that on my (all?) mobo it is a ~1.7v current for the power light. I had assumed it was a 3v because  I had changed the factory green to red (3v) a while back with no problems. To get around that I rigged up a transistor and used the 1.7v current to switch on the 5v current from the powersupply and then attached a 100ohm resistor to bring it down to about 3. This worked fine for the power LED, but the HDD LED just stays on all the time. I tried putting the old red (functional) LED back in, but it stays on all the time too. Could I have fried someting on my MOBO? Any Ideas?

you know... in retrospect i could have just run the power LED straight from the powersupply and not used the mobo connection. When would the ps be on and not the mobo?.... doesn't change the problem I'm having, but it just hit me.
