I want to add a window to my Gateway 700XL tower, any help?
« on: March 02, 2003, 01:45:41 AM »

Okay heres my question. Do I need to buy this: http://www.bestbyte.net/Product.cfm?ProductID=593&CategoryID=28&Keyword=  and this:  http://www.bestbyte.net/Product.cfm?ProductID=399&CategoryID=28&Keyword=
To add the window? If I buy the latter one do I need to use some kind of knife to cut the side panel? Or does it come with it? And how do I have it stick to the side panel, thermal glue?

And heres another newbie q, are LED's easy to install?

Thanks in advance!

I can see that you are very new to case modding so here is a good guide on making and installing a case window.

As for the shape of the window be creative

You can use hot glue, some modle glues, thermal, wood (in some cases) rivits, bolts, screws, elcectrial tape, string, duct tape, tacks, staples. Just about any type of fastener will work,

ok, to answer your questions - the latter is a case with a window.  don't buy that.

the first one is a window kit, with everything you need to make a window except for the power tools.

you'll need a power tool for it, and I advise you don't do anything until you've read several guides on dremeling or something.

for that oval window, I recommend a dremel.  straight cuts=jigsaw, but circular = dremel and sanding drum.

LEDs are fairly easy, depending on what you do with them.

I would not advise using a glue gun to stick your window to your case... the glue gun glue does not have a strong bond for such applications. May I suggest using "Goop" instead? It's stinkier, but it'll get the job done.

or you can always screw the window on the case...
