How to take of the acoustic of an HD

Hi,  I'm a little bit Newb in OC I'm my question would be really stupid for you guys but I hear on the furum that I could take off the acoustic of my HD, so i will be a little buit more noisy but it will go really more faster. So anyway, how could I do it ?

u can physically 'take' them off easily...u can disable it. i think maxtor has software that allows you to do that...if you have a maxtor

Where would you find that software?
I looked on the maxtor site but couldn't find anything.
