74F, that's below room temperature in my house during the summer.  I believe that he means Celsius.  While it is kinda high, it's still within operating range.

Nope it's fahrenheit. My computers live in the basement which does not get much above 71F even on the hottest days.

Holy crap, only 3F over ambient when idling and 9F when under load.  That's incredible.  My underclocked Athlon XP 2500+ Mobile can't even achieve those kind of numbers.

I made sure that there was damn near unrestricted air flow across the CPU HSF. So the 120mm fan on the cpu pulls air in straight from the front of the case, and then there is another 120 mm fan on the back of the case, almost in line with the back of the HSF.

I was thinking about this last night when talking to one of my friends about the OC, and I realized that this HSF was originally designed for older, hotter running procs, so my phenom (which never really got that hot with the stock cooler) is a rather easy cooling job in comparison to say a Athlon 64 6000+ X2

Yeah, it seems after AMD came out with the 64 X2's cooling got a lot better. My Athlon X2 has a good 25% OC and never hits 40 degrees Celsius.

And Maximus you can think of the HT multipliers kind of like a separate bus frequency for HT, and HT doesn't have hardly any advantages over an increased bus and proc speed.

I find it odd that the "65W" 4200+ I have at work runs frigid (barely spinning up the stock all-aluminium CPU fan a few times a day) but the "65W" E6750 at home never spins the fan down, even with a120mm fan on a big six-heatpipe cooler.  I suspect Cool 'n Quiet >>>> EIST for power savings.  Even the old S939 4600+, a 125w or so rated part, stays remarkably cool when it spends most of the day clocked down to 5x200.

now see....i'm finding all this "amd 64 x2's run really cool" hard to believe. I built myself a new computer with my tax refund using an a64 X2 4200 and with the stock heatsink i was idling at like 64c. even after re-seating it the temps never changed, then when god forbid i'd load a game it would skyrocket to 90c+ and my computer would shut down. I ended up replacing the stock fan with a 6krpm thermaltake fan and got new high output 120mm case fans and now with my fan running full tilt it only idles at about 42c. what kind of voodoo magic are you guys using? here's a quick SS of what i've got

Did you install Cool 'n Quiet?  I'm trying to remember if it's on on the 4200+ I mentioned, but installing it on the 4600+ dropped idle temps from like 53C to 39C.

I just did and......it's amazing. now speedfan is telling me i'm idling at 28/30c.............that's so bizarre. How come this isn't a default setting for them?

I think it just requires a little bit of OS cooperation, so the drivers are required.
