i recently got a 80gb wd hdd. I was installing it on my computer. Windows doesn't see it. I get it at the post screen, bios, and divice manager but when i try to access it through my computer, its just not there. Help please?

go into administrative tools ---> computer management ---> storage ---> and now format the drive/create a partition, you can also use a 3rd party program like partitionmagic.

The problem is that the drive is blank, no filesystem, no partitions. Windows sees it as a piece of hardware, but since it has no filesystem, it cant be shown in my computer.  Almost all new hard drives ship blank, very few hard drives are prepped for use, I havent seen any personally but i have heard that some external HDs come formatted as FAT32. Its very simple to format your own drive, just a few clicks and a little bit of a wait.

(Thats how you do it in 2k/XP, if you are using win98/ME its probably done differently)
